   The origin of SULTAN STEEL: Beirut 1950 , the first Rolling Shutters industry in the Middle East was founded by Soubhi El Masri and Abdullah Sultan facing Beirut Port. This business dealt with the production of rolling shutter doors for shops and supermarkets . This firm continued its operations till the beginning of the Lebanese war in 1975-76 where they were obliged to shut down because the location was on the front between fighting parties . After two years of standby the sons of Mr. Sultan gathered and decided to continue this business line; therefore, in 1978 they founded SULTANIUM for Industry & General Trade in Beirut , Burg Abu Haidar . SULTANIUM dealt at the beginning with rolling shutters production, manufacturing, and maintenance from 1978 till 1981. Unfortunately, due to the war the demand for rolling shutters decreased, and the preference of heavy steel doors was noted. As a result SULTANIUM found the opportunity in expanding in this new line of business. Therefore, the decision was taken to open a new branch in Beirut, Ghobeiry in 1981. This new branch dealt with steel productions for residential buildings along with Aluminum productions of doors and windows. The Middle Phase: SULTANIUM continued in rolling shutters and steel manufacturing from 1981 till 1988. At this time the Lebanese war was in its peak phases, this situation made the steel scarce in West Beirut due to two main reasons: the first one is that the major steel traders were located in East Beirut, Second transferring goods between East and West Beirut was very difficult. As a result, SULTANIUM found another opportunity in steel trading. This step was among the successful decisions taken by the management, where in a period of two years SULTANIUM became the market leader in steel trade in West Beirut, and among the top ten in Lebanon. The first expansion in steel trade was two years later by opening a warehouse in Jnah in 1990, and another major one in 1992 in Ouzaii, a hangar area of 3000 m2. In early 90’s the reconstruction phase began in Lebanon and the production was enhanced again, and the demand for deformed steel for construction increased. At that time, it was noted that the suppliers of deformed steel in the area of mount Lebanon and the south cost were not that strong to cover the whole market demands. A new opportunity was remarked, but too mush spread for SULTANIUM was not advisable since it would be harder to control steel trading and manufacturing in addition to rolling shutters production and steel manufacturing. Therefore, in 1995 a decision was taken to separate the production from the trade divisions. At that time the idea of initiating SULTAN STEEL came in mind, and in December 1995 the company was initiated by adding a warehouse in chweifat to the previous ones in Jnah and Ouzaii. the production remained under the name of SULTANIUM and a new name for trade was established which is SULTAN STEEL s.a.r.l. This latter dealt with the trade of all kind of steel needed in productions as well as deformed steel needed in building constructions .
